Mozambique Mining Off-Grid Carbon Reduction Project(PV-Storage-Diesel Replacement)

01  |

1.Project Size:
•MW Solar
•926 MWh battery energy storage system

2.Industry:
Mining & Construction

3.Project Overview:
The project site is located in the northern part of Lichinga City, capital of Niassa Province, Mozambique, approximately 280 km north of the city centre. The site’s central coordinates are E35.033253°, S11.901583°, with an elevation of approximately 980–1000m above sea level. The region enjoys an annual solar irradiation of around 1,941 hours, making it a high solar-resource area with excellent conditions for photovoltaic power generation.

The project currently operates one drilling rig, two excavators and two loaders, with additional equipment to be procured as mining production scales up. There are six diesel generators on site.

In addition, the owner intends to build a hospital and a school locally, which are also planned to be powered by renewable energy in the future.

The leveled cost of electricity (LCOE) over 25 years is AUD 0.0454/kWh.
The full investment payback period is 1.76 years, delivering strong long-term cost savings while reducing diesel consumption and carbon emissions.
